Chicago Kindergarten Fit Score

Chicago Kindergarten Fit Score

A free school fit score spreadsheet of Chicago Public Schools kindergarten programs, scored by how well each fits what matters to your family.

Please include your ZIP code. It is how we make sure we found the right building. You do not need to enter an apartment number.

We use your home address to measure distance and to find your neighborhood elementary school on the district's map. We delete it when your spreadsheet is built, or if it can't be built.

What matters to your family?

Choose at least one Important factor or pill so we can score programs for you.

When the district has not listed a detail for a program, we do not guess a value or score it as a miss. A detail you mark Important that the district has not listed counts as half credit, and your spreadsheet says "not listed."

How much does distance from home matter?
What kind of school would you like?
Which themes or focuses interest you?
How big a school would you like?
Do you need before-school care?

We mark a school when the district lists an earliest drop-off before the school day starts. Ask the school what care costs and how to enroll.

Do you need after-school care?

We mark a school when the district lists after-school hours. Ask the school what care costs and how to enroll.

Does a bus or train line near the school matter?

We mark a school when the district lists a bus, train or commuter-rail line for it. The district sets its own bus rules, so ask the school whether your child could ride.

Which languages would you like to see in the classroom?

Only some schools list the languages used in the classroom, so this factor will not fit many programs.

Optional. Pick up to 3 schools from the list. We mark those schools in your spreadsheet and, if you make this Important, rank them higher. We keep only which schools you pick from the list, and nothing about your older child. The district decides what a sibling means for each program.

    Your email address

No sign-up needed. You'll download your spreadsheet from this page as an Excel file, which also opens in Google Sheets or Numbers.

We never ask for your child's name or birth date. It is a short list of choices.

Your questionnaire is used to build this spreadsheet. We keep your email, your consent and your ZIP code, as our Privacy Policy describes, and never your child's name, your street address, or sensitive eligibility information.

    Questions parents ask

What is the Chicago Kindergarten Fit Score?

A free tool from Leto for Chicago families applying for kindergarten through GoCPS, the district's application. You tell us how much each of these matters: distance from home, the kind of school, themes, school size, before- and after-school care, bus and train lines, classroom languages and an older child's school. We score the district's kindergarten programs on your answers and give you an Excel spreadsheet of every program that fits.

Does the Fit Score predict admission?

No. A Fit Score says how well a program fits what you told us. It is not a quality rating, and it doesn’t predict admission or tell you what to rank first. The district decides who gets a seat.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, and there is no account. We ask for your email and add you to Leto’s email list; you can unsubscribe anytime.

Will it tell me my neighborhood school?

We find your address on the district's 2026–27 attendance boundary map and name the neighborhood elementary school it shows. We ask you to confirm it in the district’s School Locator.

    Which programs are included?

The kindergarten programs in the district’s 2026 program data. The 2027–28 list is on the district’s application site, so confirm every program there. Programs where a test decides are listed on their own tab and are not scored. Charter schools that take part in the district’s application are included. A charter school with its own separate application is not.

What happens to my home address?

We use it to measure distance and to find your neighborhood school. To find it on the map, we send it to the U.S. Census Bureau’s free address service. We keep only its ZIP code, and delete the street address once your spreadsheet is built, or if it can’t be built.

How do I use it with the district’s application?

Use it to decide which programs to look at, then check current programs, deadlines and rules on the district’s application site, and list programs there in your family’s own order of preference.

    About our information

For families applying in fall 2026 for kindergarten starting in September 2027.

Kindergarten applications for the 2027–28 school year are open from 9 September 2026, 10 a.m., to 13 November 2026, 5 p.m. Chicago time. Elementary offers come out 12 March 2027.

This list is the district's 2026 program data; the 2027–28 list is on the district's application site. Confirm every program there.

School facts (student counts, hours, care, bus and train lines, languages) are from the district's current school profiles, read 14 October 2026.

When the district has not listed a detail, we never treat it as "No." A detail you marked Important that the district has not listed counts as half credit, and its score says "not listed."

Not in this spreadsheet: a charter school with its own separate application (charter schools in the district's application are included), Pre-K, and grades above kindergarten.

Independent planning tool; not affiliated with or endorsed by Chicago Public Schools. Verify current programs, eligibility, deadlines, and school assignments with GoCPS.
