        Optional: ask your 8th grader what they are looking for in high school, and write it here. We’ll number your schools by how well each one fits what they said, with a sentence on why, so you know which to look at first. It won’t add or remove schools, or change any Fit Score.

        What is the NYC High School Fit Score?

        A free tool from Leto for NYC families with an 8th grader. You choose how much distance from home and school size matter, and which program interest areas and sports your child wants. We score every eligible NYC public high school program on those choices and give you an editable Excel spreadsheet of up to 50 programs.

        Does the Fit Score predict my child’s chance of getting in?

        No. It uses only the preferences you choose. It is not a school-quality rating and it does not predict admission. MySchools remains the authority for admissions requirements, priorities and applications.

        Is it free? Do I need an account?

        It is free, and there is no account. We ask for your email and add you to Leto’s email list; you can unsubscribe anytime.

        Which schools are included?

        Ordinary NYC public high school programs, the specialized high schools that use the SHSAT, and LaGuardia programs. Charter, transfer, private and parochial schools are not included. Students with IEPs are included; District 75 and ASD/ACES programs are not listed separately.

        Official NYC Public Schools data, listed with its dates under Data Sources on this page.

        What happens to my home address?

        We use it to measure the straight-line distance to each school. To find the building, we send it to New York City’s free address service and, if needed, the U.S. Census Bureau’s. We keep only its ZIP code and borough, and delete the street address once your spreadsheet is built, or if it can’t be built.

        What happens to what I write about my child?

        It is optional. We use it once to number the schools in your spreadsheet by how well each fits what your child said, with a sentence on why, so you know which to look at first. It won’t add or remove schools or change any Fit Score, and we don’t save what you wrote.

        How do I use it with MySchools?

        Use it to decide which schools to investigate, then verify current details in MySchools and rank programs there in your true order of preference.

        Notes on this form

        1. We need your home street address. We use it to measure how far each school is from home. We keep only its ZIP code and borough, and we delete the address from our systems once your spreadsheet is built, or if it can’t be built. We never ask for your child’s name. Distance is straight-line miles from your address — not commute time. Back to the question
        2. When you move on from this box, we send your address to a free New York City address service to tick your borough below. If you leave without asking for a workbook, we don’t store your address. Back to the question

        4. Schools beyond your maximum are filtered out unless Leto cannot verify the distance from official data. Unverified schools stay visible with a warning. Back to the question

        Leto uses official NYC Public Schools data.

        Different NYC Public Schools datasets update on different schedules, so we use the newest official source available for each field. When NYC Public Schools publishes a newer official successor, we replace the older source after validating it.

        Current measured coverage for scoring fields:

        • Enrollment: 100% of eligible programs
        • Interest Area: published for about 96% of eligible programs, usable for about 92%
        • Sports: about 98.4% of eligible schools

        “Usable” is lower than “published” because some programs publish only a zoning note, which is not an interest area you can choose.

        When official data is missing, we treat it as unknown. We do not guess, fill in a value, treat missing data as “No,” or score it as a mismatch.

        Some admissions details change from cycle to cycle. Always verify current requirements, priorities, assessments, auditions and application information in MySchools.

        The Fit Score covers ordinary NYC public high-school programs, the specialized high schools that use the SHSAT, and LaGuardia Application programs. Charter, transfer, private and parochial schools are outside this version.

        Students with IEPs are included.

        Students with disabilities participate in the ordinary NYC public high-school admissions process and receive recommendations across ordinary programs just like other students.

        Certain specialized programs, including District 75 Inclusive Services and ASD/ACES programs, use additional eligibility or placement processes and are not currently included as separate recommendations.

        Families seeking those programs should check MySchools and work with their school or IEP team for current guidance.
